Marriott International has reached 300 properties in Mexico, representing more than 44,000 rooms across 25 global brands. The milestone came with the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Torreón. Mexico is Marriott’s largest market in the Caribbean and Latin America region.
The country accounts for more than half of Marriott’s open properties across the region. Mexico also represents almost 40% of the company’s regional development pipeline. As of the second quarter of 2026, Marriott’s Mexican pipeline included 76 hotels with more than 12,000 rooms. Conversions account for 35% of the signed development pipeline in Mexico. The company expects to open more than 10 additional hotels in the country before the end of 2026.
Resort and all-inclusive expansion
Mexico’s resort markets continue to support Marriott’s expansion across luxury and all-inclusive segments. In June, the company opened The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, Cancún.
The beachfront property sits near protected mangroves and the barrier reef. In May, Marriott completed the conversion of The Westin Playa Vallarta, an All-Inclusive Resort. The property represents the Westin brand’s first all-inclusive resort in Mexico. Marriott expects to open Casa Nizuc, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, in November.
The company also announced an agreement with BlueBay Group for a Marriott Hotels all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya. Under a separate agreement with The Reef Resorts & Spa, Marriott plans three Tribute Portfolio conversions. The properties are The Reef Playacar, The Reef 28 and The Reef Coco Beach. The three hotels will add 676 rooms to Marriott’s all-inclusive pipeline. The expansion will also mark Tribute Portfolio’s debut in Playa del Carmen.
Conversions and market diversification
Luxury Collection, Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio Hotels continue to support Marriott’s conversion activity. These brands offer flexible platforms for owners of independent properties.
Recent conversions include Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort. Another example is Paraiso de la Bonita, a Luxury Collection Resort, Riviera Maya, Adult All-Inclusive. Marriott expects several additional openings across Mexico. These include Hotel Boca Alameda, Mexico City, Autograph Collection, Delta Hotels by Marriott Chihuahua, and CASAMAYOR Hotel Hacienda, Autograph Collection.
The company is also expanding into secondary and tertiary markets supporting tourism and business travel. Regional manufacturing and trade hubs have contributed to this development.
Recent openings include Sheraton León in April and Fairfield by Marriott San Luis Potosí Los Lagos in July. Courtyard by Marriott Torreón opened in August, marking Marriott’s 300th property in Mexico. Additional developments are scheduled for 2027 across Chihuahua, Michoacán and Puebla.
